Pottering in the greenhouse

Measuring the slow grey day:
handfulls of peaty soil are spread over baking trays,
finger squeezes down the black earth
like a hand up the back of a cow.
Golf ball pea pods
or ball bearing cabbage seeds
are deftly potted into the hole,
patted in from folded paper.
I brush soil over the grave,
mark the plant with a flag pole
and lay out the tray on the ground
like brownies.

Marinate with hosepipe,
Repeat until fade / run out of mixture.
